Style Ideas for DC Publication..

I want the book to look really high end and minimalist and also try and get it specially printed rather than send if off to generically be printed, however I am not sure how this will be possible as yet.

Concept for DC Publication -

I am going to create the publication along the lines of my branding, and play on the idea of double sided.
Look at graphic design for fashion on one side and fashion/documentary photography on the other. The under lying theme will be minimalism as this is the style of my work.

Design Context Publication -
Photography

Describe your work in two sentences.
I photograph people I feel close to.
Would you consider your work documentary or art?
I don’t really put my work in one of the corners… I think it depends on the place where it’s shown. If it’s shown in a museum, it may be received as art, though the work didn’t change at all. If it’s in a magazine it might be called documentary.
Do you consider your work diaristic or is there an element of staging?
I try to be as diaristic as possible, but with photography there is always an element of staging I guess, there are loads of texts about this question  but I use cameras that are as small as possible so that they don’t become a strong element in the interaction with people.
You’ve created works about incredibly personal subjects such as Gosia. Do you have a close relationship with all your subjects?
Yes, I try to. I think that you can tell more about a person, photographically as well, when you spend a lot of time with them. I trust a portrait series much more than single portraits, as you are able to see the subject in many different situations / from different sides instead of judging it from the look, its clothes and the background of one image. The more images of someone you know, the harder it is to box them inside a stereotype.
There seems to be an element of pathos as well as humour in some of your work. Do you see them as interlinked?
There are moments in everyday life that are incredible but that you don’t have the time to recognize or even perceive right away. Photography helps in that respect. When I’m alone, putting together a series, I seem to choose pictures that look more grave than the situation maybe was. The humourous side comes from my personality maybe, how I interact with people. I’m not sure really. I sound like a dick here.
What do you find exciting about self-publishing?
That the works or stories told don’t have to live up to any commercial standard. You don’t need a middle man / publisher that has to think about numbers/business, judging the work.
Where’s best, Linz or Paris?
It’s hard to compare the two cities as they are so different in size. And I lived much longer in Linz so I know more people there and that makes living a lot nicer. But Ii think generally it’s good if the city you’re living in has a kind of artistic vacuum, that there is a lack of something, that you are able to fill. In Paris every brick has a history, everything spills over with cliché. I don’t really feel able to contribute to that.

Letterhead ideas

I want to create a simplistic yet interesting letterhead for Allanah.

It needs to be able to be printed by her as to keep the budget down and also be functional.

I do quite like the idea of having a sheet over the top of the actual letter head, as a sort of cover letter style. It would look pretty sweet!

More ideas for cubed poster..

I really want to carry on using the photography as  the background for the poster, yet I do want it to look minimal.

More ideas for the fashion yearbook..

Gemma liked the idea of breaking glass and cutting for the yearbook however I am unsure about cutting the text as it doesn't look very proffessional I dont think.. So these images gave me other ideas, such as cutting the number of the page or something other than the copy. Then other ideas such as cutting the words of the side of the page and carrying it on on the other side, subtle ways of using the concept of breaking glass.

Easter Evaluation:

Brief 1 - Fashion Branding: Printed material done, need to photograph this. Then the animation is nearly there I need to video the model in the studio doing a few poses, make them black and white and fit into the sequence.

Brief 2 - Fashion Yearbook: We have received the initial images giving us an idea of their collection, we have the information and the structure is ready. We need to now work with the other fashion team to create a theme or a link between the book and cover designs. Also need to finalise the layouts of all the students.

Brief 3 - Multiple Identities:

Allanah - Need to stamp the business cards and letterhead, then create tags for the artwork and also packaging to send out prints.

Hebe - Send them the finalised high res designs, then create a PDF of all work

All Too Human - Finalise with Tony his preferred designs and create the logo and CD artwork

Brief 4 - EchoWire: using the final logo create designs for the Vinyls, and packaging, create poster design and make up the business cards.

Brief 5 - Waven: Create designs for t-shirt range, then upload ideas for packaging, tags, labels.

Brief 6 - End of Year Show: Photo shoot on wednesday to get final photographs for designs, these then need to replace existing photographs. Then create web button and banner also the magazine inserts. Take my designs to Chloe and Fred to talk through them and all done for next Monday.

Brief 7 - Design Context Book: Gather more content and also send out the questionaires I have made for studios, then think about structure/format of the book.
EchoWire

The guys at EchoWire have asked for a full set of designs.
They wanted the logo, poster designs, business cards, letterhead, vinyl stickers, vinyl packaging and t-shirt designs

They really like simplicity and these stood out for me. They are fairly simplistic yet they are eye catching, EchoWire did however say they only wanted it to be black and white plus one other colour.

Along with creating a digital advertisement for the new range launch in Topshop I have also got to think about the printed matter that would be needed to set up a range. Such as:

-tags
-bags
-labels
-hangers
-receipts
-gift cards
-vouchers
-packaging of the vouchers/gift cards

all of which I want to do.

Tags I liked in relation to my cubed range..

Current tags used as vouchers/ gift cards.. I like this idea and also the orange coloured material.. However I want mine to stay close to the cubed/3D theme of which runs through everything.

Visual ideas for the fashion yearbook theme..

Gemma really liked the slick lines and cut straight edge proposal we came up with, as without us actually knowing this it works well with their final show theme which is broken glass, and breaking through which is sweet.. These are the kinds of things I see inspiring our designs through the book. And when we have seen the images from the students and have got a feel for their work we can then play around with colours.

Designs by the leading graphic designer at Topshop.
I want to make my products relevant to the store and also work in context of the shop.
